CITY COUNCIL MEETING SET FOR THURSDAY

  

The Brenham City Council will look at 2 rezoning issues at their regular meeting Thursday.  The owner a small tract of land on Peabody Street wishes to have it rezoned mixed residential from its current commercial research and technology zoning.  That would make it match the zoning of his adjoining lot on Alamo Street.  The council will also have the second reading of an ordinance establishing a Neighborhood Business District south of the downtown area.  Parking inside the district had become an issue, and council decided at their June 15th meeting to waive the parking requirement for business who wish to locate in the district.

Also on the agenda, the council will look at establishing a Railroad Quiet Zone at the railroad crossing on FM 109.  Currently, the railroad crossings in the city are designated a quiet zone with no train horns sounding unless a person or vehicle are on the tracks.  The Quiet Zone for the FM 109 crossing is a joint project between the City, County, TxDOT and BNSF.

The council will also look at a request from the Washington County Appraisal District to utilize excess funds from this year’s budget for several projects.  Washington County Commissioners approved the request at their meeting Monday.

The council is also slated to award the final payment to Collier Construction for the new Pet Adoption Center.  They will also consider awarding a bid for construction of new restroom facilities for Fireman’s Park.  The new restrooms will be air conditioned and will have Mens, Womens, and Family facilities.

The City Council meets Thursday afternoon at 1:00 on the second floor of the City Hall building.
