LUTHERAN CHURCHES CELEBRATING PROTESTANT REFORMATION

St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham will celebrate the Protestant Reformation this weekend along with about a dozen other Lutheran churches in the Brazos Valley.

It’s been 500 years since Martin Luther started the Protestant Reformation and subsequent division from the Catholic Church. From 9 a.m. ‘til noon tomorrow (Saturday) ELCA churches of the Brazos Valley will hold a series of workshops on a variety of topics at St. Paul’s in Brenham titled “Here I Stand”.  Sam Brannon will speak on “The Future of Water in Texas”.  Bishop Michael Rinehart will discuss the needs and challenges of immigrants in the world.  Dr. Phebe Simmons will cover the topic of homeless families.  Reverend Carol E. Peterson will discuss the historical role of the church in ministering to the sick.  Daniel Lund will share his experiences in prison ministry.  And Mike Bell will lead a presentation on issues surrounding hunger, then organize the packing of send-home meals that will be distributed in local communities.

Sunday morning at 10:30 a large Reformation Worship Service will be held at Brenham High School.  The Saturday workshops and Sunday service celebrating the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation are hosted by The Brenham Mission Society and the ELCA Church of the Brazos Valley.
