BURTON CITY COUNCIL APPROVES UTILITY RATE INCREASE

  

The Burton City Council has approved an increase in the city utility rates.

The minimum rate will increase from $63.79 to $69.  The water increase $4 to $32, while sewer will increase just over one-dollar to $23.  Officials say the garbage rate will remain the same.

City officials say the rates remain lower that those of other cities in the county.

Residents will receive a letter informing them when the rate increase.

The council also approved a $3 processing fee for those who use a credit card for the payment of a water bill.

Officials say most municipalities charge a $3 fee for any credit card transaction.

The council also discussed a new monument to welcome people to Burton.  Officials with the Burton Chamber of Commerce say they have found a plot of land along U.S. 290 that would be ideal for the monument.  No action was taken.

The council swore in a new council member.  Tommie Gilmon was sworn in as Place Two council member.  She succeeds Bob Brouillette, who resigned last month.
