CITY COUNCIL TO DISCUSS NEW FIRE STATION THURSDAY
Brenham City Council will be discussing a new Fire Station at their meeting Thursday. Council members will consider the purchase of 3 acres of land on the south side of town for a future fire station. The city has been looking to build a new station to shorten the response time to the growing south end of Brenham as well as the State Supported Living Center. Councilmembers will also hear an update on the plans for the Brenham Family Park. The park will be built on 106 acres donated to the city by Ed and Evelyn Kruse. The property is located on the south side of Brenham, where Chappell Hill Street ends.
Councilmembers will also vote on the second reading of a zoning change to 8 acres along Tiaden lane from residential to industrial. The zoning change drew considerable discussion at the last city council meeting. Several residents from Tiaden lane objected to the change fearing increased traffic and higher property taxes. Del Sol Foods is looking to purchase the property contingent on the zoning change. They said that it would be for future growth of their plant located on the adjacent Blue Bell Road. Council voted to approve the first reading of the ordinance, with council members Weldon Williams and Charile Pyle voting against it.
