Brenham has named a new police chief.

Louis Allwin Barrow, Jr. has been selected for the post.

Barrow has served the last ten years as an interim police chief with several Texas police agencies, and currently serves as a law enforcement security advisor and subject matter expert.

Barrow was selected from a field of over 90 candidates by City Manager James Fisher.

The City selected 5 semifinalists and they interviewed before two community panels.

After notifying the City Council and the personnel in the Brenham Police Department, Fisher announced the appointment today (Tuesday). Fisher said, “The police chief serves a critical leadership role that provides direction to an agency responsible for the safety and security of the citizens of our community”.

Barrow is a graduate of Stephen F. Austin University with a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice Management. He holds a Master Peace Officer certification, and has over 5000 hours of management and specialty skills training.

Barrow received the “Career Achievement Award as Friend of the FBI”, from Robert S. Mueller, Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in 2001. In addition, he was the recipient of the award of Public Safety Excellence from Texas Municipal League in 1997.

Barrow began his law enforcement career with the Beaumont Police Department in 1970, where he worked his way from Patrol Officer to Commander. He served as Chief of Police for Waxahachie Police Department where he directed all police operations in the growing community in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Brenham’s new Chief has a breadth of experience in several different Texas police agencies. Chief Barrow will be moving with his wife, Kathy, from Omaha, Nebraska to Brenham later this summer. Barrow has five children, living in areas ranging from Nebraska to Tomball, Texas.

Chief Barrow begins his service with the City of Brenham on May 14, 2018.
