COUNTY, BRENHAM AND BURTON SALES TAX DISTRIBUTIONS UP

  

Washington County and the cities of Brenham and Burton continue to show an increase in state sales and use tax distributions, but all trail the state average for 2018.

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar reports that sales and use tax distributions are up an average of over 13 percent across the state, compared to last year.  However, through April the City of Brenham’s distribution from the state is up only one half percent, totaling just over $2.7 million.  The City of Burton’s is doing a little better, showing an increase of 5.55 % for a total of $26,606 for the year.  Washington County is doing better as a whole this year, showing an increase of just over 7% over last year for a total of $1,190,904.

In our area, only Lee County’s sales and use tax distributions are down from last year.  Lee County’s total through May is down almost 11%.  Looking at other area counties, Austin County’s total is up 19.5%; Burleson County is up 17.23%;  Fayette County is up 12.97%; and Grimes County is up 24.63%.
