FAYETTE CO. OFFICERS COMPLETE TRAINING COURSE

Fayette County officers recently completed a new training course required by state legislature.

Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputies, along with La Grange, Schulenburg and Flatonia Police officers, completed a 40-hour Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) course last week.

Sheriff Keith Korenek says the training focused on informing officers about mental illnesses, as well as methods on how to handle cases dealing with people who live with them.

The officers’ training used classroom settings, along with role-play situations where they simulated potential calls and practiced learned techniques.

Guest speakers from area mental health facilities, in addition to individuals who live with mental illnesses, gave presentations to the class.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office CIT Investigator instructed the course, with assistance from several local offices, medical providers and volunteers.
