The program is catered to 3rd through 6th graders, offering an in-depth, hands-on look into how 21st century farms operate.  Through the courses, students can learn basic agro-ecology, as well as take part in lessons in science, math, writing, culinary arts, and livestock management.

Upcoming winter sessions take place on January 14th, February 11th, and March 11th, with classes taking place in the morning.  The cost per student is $195, which includes four hours of instruction with a break for lunch.  Lunch is not provided.

Students are asked to wear clothes they can get dirty, as well as boots or sturdy closed-toe shoes.  They should also bring a water bottle, along with a hat, work gloves, sunscreen, a notebook and pen or pencil.

The Blackwood Institute can be found at 27144 Rock Island Road in Hempstead.  To learn more about the program, visit www.blackwoodland.org/programs/farmschool, or call 1-888-741-7199.
