WASHINGTON-ON-THE-BRAZOS TO HONOR TEXAS INDEPENDENCE
The Birthplace of Texas will be celebrating Texas Independence this weekend.
Events are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historical Park.
The events to honor the state’s 183rd anniversary include: live music, food, traditional crafts, living history presentations, firing demonstrations, historical encampments and commemorative programs.
Visitors will get the chance to experience life in Texas in 1836 by visiting with reenactors; witnessing firing demonstrations in the Texas Army camps; watching cooking, weaving and period craft demonstrations; and walking the same trail as Texas’ forefathers and pioneer families. Texas musicians and actors will provide musical and theatrical entertainment.
A Kids History Zone will allow children to dress up in historical costumes, sign a large-scale copy of the Texas Declaration of Independence, and take photos near the Declaration.
A Cowboy Church Service will be held Sunday morning.
Events will take place Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
KWHI will be broadcasting live from 10:00 to noon, Saturday.
