ARTS AND APPETIZERS EVENT RAISES OVER $33,000

Over $33,000 was raised at the 14th annual Arts and Appetizers event hosted by the BISD Education Foundation. Emerging artists from the Brenham Independent School District showcased and auctioned off their brilliant pieces of art during the event held in the ballroom at Ant Street Inn this past Thursday.

The audience and support for this year’s event was one of the largest to date. Multiple sponsors, local officials, community members, parents and BISD staff filled the ballroom in support of the BISD art students and Brenham Public Schools. The crowd’s boasting energy and generous support made this the most successful Arts and Appetizers Event thus far.

Preliminary totals from the BISD Education Foundation reflect a total of $33,126 raised during the event. This surpasses last year’s total of $23,185 by almost $10,000! This year, $20,746 was brought in through the live and silent auctions, $6,120 was raised by the raffle tickets, and $6,260 was donated to the Foundation through donations and sponsorships.

The highlight of the live auction was the artwork created by Brenham High School 11th grade artist Jill Rosenbaum. Her piece “Watchful Ranch Hand” was selected for this year’s invitation and received the highest bid of the night. It was purchased by Bar CR Ranch for $2,100.

Other top selling items included an Aggie Lover’s Dream package which sold on the live auction for $1,100 to Crain Group, a duck hunt which sold for $925 to Ballard and Fleetwood, a Hill Country Weekend which sold for $875 to the Merten and Schear Families, and a piece of artwork created by Delaney Duran which sold for $750 to Escobar Ranch, Ranch King Trailers and Brannon Industrial Group. Each of the artists received half of the proceeds from the auction of their artwork.

The Foundation is thankful for the support of everyone who attended the event and supported our mission and emerging artists in BISD.

The Brenham ISD Education Foundation will distribute the funds raised at the event to sponsor teacher mini-grants for items to use in classrooms. Anyone who was not able to attend the event, but wishes to contribute to the BISD Education Foundation, can mail their gift to 2211 South Day Street #330, Brenham, Texas 77833.   Story and photos courtesy of Brenham ISD.
