BURTON CITY COUNCIL ADOPTS 2019-20 BUDGETS
The Burton City Council approved and adopted the new fiscal year’s budgets at its meeting Tuesday night.
Councilmembers issued final approval of the general and water and sewer budgets. The general budget balances at $285,575, while the water and sewer budget accounts for $200,563 in revenue and expenditures.
The council also cancelled the election on May 4th, as all three seats up for re-election are unopposed. Incumbent Mayor David Zajicek, Position One Nathan Kalkhake, and Position Four Jerry Martin were the only candidates to file for the election by the February 15th deadline.
The council took no action on the post-closure maintenance of the city’s solid waste site, which was closed in January of 1986 and currently owned by Doug Collins. According to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, the city no longer has post-closure maintenance responsibility because the site has been closed longer than 30 years.
Councilmembers rendered a mobile home ordinance granted at February’s meeting null and void, due to incorrect information provided to the council. Another variance request was also removed from the agenda, due to incorrect information.
