129TH MAIFEST THIS WEEK IN BRENHAM
It’s Maifest Week in Brenham, as events kick off soon for the 129th Maifest.
The official “Kickoff Picnic” will be held Wednesday evening at 6 p.m., at the Fireman’s Park Pavilion. KWHI will have a live broadcast of the opening ceremonies.
Maifest costumes from past kings and queens are on display at 25 locations throughout downtown Brenham. Display locations are available at www.maifest.org, or at the Brenham Maifest Facebook page.
Thursday, the Mighty Thomas Carnival opens on the Maifestival grounds, with games and rides available for all ages. The carnival will be open from 5 to 11 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and from 11 a.m. to midnight Saturday. The Junior Maifest Coronation will be held Friday at 7 p.m., featuring entertainment and the coronation of the “Once Upon a Storytime” Junior Court at the baseball field.
Saturday’s colorful parade will run through downtown Brenham beginning at 10:30 a.m., with a live broadcast Saturday morning on KWHI. Activities will continue at the Maifestival grounds throughout Saturday, including the coronation of the “Glamour in the Great Outdoors” Senior Court at the ballpark.
Admission is free to the Maifestival grounds Friday and Saturday, featuring plenty of German music, dancing, food, and other activities. The Zythological Society of North America will hold the annual Meister Von Bier Homebrew Contest Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m., and the Bierverkostung Beer Tasting from 2 to 5 p.m. Live music and entertainment will continue at the Maifestival ground through midnight.
General admission and reserve tickets will be on sale at the coronation practices at Fireman’s Park throughout the week.
