BURTON SCHOOL BOARD TO ADDRESS ELECTION ITEMS

The Burton School Board will deal with several items from the May 4th board election at its meeting tonight (Monday).

The board will canvass results of the election, administer oaths of office to board members, and potentially reorganize the board.

Legal and local board policy dictates the board must elect a president, vice-president and secretary the first meeting after an election. Present board members will use a majority vote to elect these officers.

In the election earlier this month, incumbents Demetrius Colvin and Jeff Harmel earned 323 and 375 votes, winning re-election to their at-large positions. The two were challenged by Sue Pinkerton and Jon Johnson, who received 171 and 170 votes.

In a special election to fill the unexpired term of Linda Hasten, who resigned after leaving the school district, incumbent Ande Bostain was elected to fill the seat after receiving 363 votes to challenger John Parffrey’s 154.

Also in session, the board will receive a report from the superintendent, including letters of reasonable assurance for non-certified personnel and preliminary budget projections. The athletic director and junior high and high school principals will also present reports.

The board will then adjourn into executive session to discuss district safety and security.

The board will meet this afternoon at 6:30 p.m. in the Administration Office on 701 North Railroad Street.
