BURLESON CO. TO BE PART OF OPIOID STUDY

Burleson County will be part of a new program that addresses opioid use in rural communities.

A new consortium called Project STEP—Substance Use, Treatment, Education, Prevention—is a federally funded program that will gather information in Burleson and Madison Counties about opioid and other substance abuse and consequences.

According to CHI-St. Joseph’s Hospital, community members in the two counties will be asked to participate in a survey, including those who currently use opioids; are recovering from addiction; health workers and first responders; and law enforcement and health care workers.

The data will be used to develop plans for opioid and substance abuse prevention and treatment.

The project is funded through the Office of Rural Health Policy—which is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
