ROUND TOP TO HOST GERMAN CELEBRATIONS

Two special events at the Rifle Association Hall in Round Top this fall will celebrate marksmanship and bier.

The 147th Annual Schützenfest celebration and dance is scheduled for Sunday Sept. 15, and the OktoBierFest will be held Saturday, Oct. 26.

Schützenfest is a shooting contest that results in the crowning of the könig (king), who is the Rifle Association member with the best score after three rounds of shooting.

New this year will be an appearance direct from Germany by the Musikkapelle Markt Erkheim, the original Bavarian Blasmusik group, who will perform at 3 pm.

A meal of barbecue sausage, German potatoes, and coleslaw will be followed by a free dance from 6:30-8:30 with Donnie Wavra & The Hi-Liters.

The könig then has the honor of tapping the first keg at OktoBierFest on Oct. 26.  The event will be held from 11 am-8 pm, and the traditional keg tapping will be held at 12 noon in the covered pavilion!

The bier will be served free to all while it lasts. The menu features bratwurst, Kassler-style pork chops, German potatoes, and sauerkraut.

This year’s music lineup will feature the Auf Geht’s German showband from Houston, Enzian Buam, Alpine Yodelers from Frelsubrg, and Round Top Brass Band.

In the event of inclement weather, activities will be moved into the dance hall.
