ROUND TOP TO HOST “SCHUTZENFEST” SUNDAY
The 147th Annual “Schützenfest” is all set for Sunday at the Round Top Schutzen Verein.
“Schützenfest” is a shooting contest that annually crowns a new “Schuetzen Koenig”, or “Shooting King”. The Koenig is the Round Top Rifle Association member with the best score after three rounds of shooting at steel targets, using .22-caliber rifles.
The crowning of the new Koenig will be held at 5 p.m., along with a Grand March and tapping of the ceremonial keg shipped from Munich, Germany. While the shooting competition is private, the celebration is free and open to the public.
New this year will be an appearance direct from Germany by the Musikkapelle Markt Erkheim, the original Bavarian Blasmusik group, who will perform at 3 pm. There will also be a free dance with Donnie Wavra and the Hi-Liters from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
There will also be a meal of barbecue sausage, German potatoes, and coleslaw.
The Round Top Schutzen Verein can be found at 710 FM 1457. To learn more about this weekend’s festivities, visit https://roundtoprifle.com.
