VERLANDER WINS A.L. CY YOUNG AWARD
Astros ace Justin Verlander has been named this year's American League Cy Young Award winner, edging out teammate Gerrit Cole.
Verlander received 17 first-place votes compared to 13 for Cole in balloting by the Baseball Writers' Association of America. Tampa Bay righty and former Astro Charlie Morton finished third.
Verlander went 21-6 with a 2.58 era and 300 strikeouts.
Jacob DeGrom of the Mets won his second NL Cy Young Award.
