MLB OWNERS TO DISCUSS RETURN MONDAY
Major League Baseball is prepared to present a proposal to owners today, offering an outline of how it envisions a possible start the 2020 season.
If owners give their approval the players' union will be next to receive the plan.
The blueprint would be subject to change and necessitate approvals from medical experts.
According to insiders, some of the key details include:
- The season would begin in early July with approximately 80 games.
- Teams would only face opponents from their own division or from their geographic equivalent.
- Teams would be able to play at their home parks, but if their respective areas haven't been cleared, home games would be spring training sites or stadium inhabited by nearby MLB teams.
- Seven teams from each of the three leagues would qualify for the postseason. The teams with the best record in each division would receive a bye.
- With no initial plans to play in front of fans, the players would be asked to take an additional reduction in pay with the idea of revenue-sharing introduced.
