COLLEGE STATION P.D. IDENTIFIES ‘SUSPICIOUS’ PACKAGE

College Station police spent a good part of Friday afternoon in a shopping center parking lot identifying and neutralizing a suspicious package.

Police Lt. Steve Brock says the taped down package was found around 1:30 p.m. on a grass island in the 800 block of Texas Avenue, near the Barnes & Noble Store.

Brock said there were no vehicles around the container, which he said was taped down in a “fairly methodical” manner.

Brock says the “suspicious package” was a boiling pot taped inside a box.  Police believe someone may have left it there on accident.

CSPD’s bomb squad x-rayed the container and then blew up the package so that in the event there was a device in it, they could destroy it before it had the chance to detonate.

Brock thanked the public for providing cold water for the officers as temperatures were in the mid-90’s with a heat index over 100 degrees.
