A pair of two-run homers and solid starting pitching carried the Houston Astros to a 6-3 exhibition win over the Kansas City Royals, Monday night.

It was the Astros’ first live competition since the Covid-19 pandemic shut down the pre-season back on March 11th.

Houston broke open a 1-0 game with four runs in the fourth inning, on a pair of two-run homers by Josh Reddick and Martin Moldonado.

The Astros took an early lead, as Alex Bregman doubled home George Springer in the first inning.

Lance McCullers got the start and showed strong control as he did not walk a batter over five innings, while giving up just one run on four hits and six strikeouts.

The Astros and Royals will close out the two-game set, Tuesday afternoon at 1:05.  The season opener is scheduled Friday night when they play host to Seattle.  Astro-Launch is set for 7:35 on AM 1280 KWHI and FM 101.7.
