BRENHAM ISD TRAINING STAFF RECEIVES NATIONAL RECOGNITION
The Brenham ISD athletics trainers have received some prestigious honors, recently.
The High School and Junior High programs have each been recognized as a Safe Sport School by the National Athletic Trainers' Association.
Meanwhile, Head Athletic Trainer Jamie Woodall has received the National Athletic Trainer of the Year Award from the Association.
In addition to Woodall, the training staff includes Assistant High School Trainer Deyonta Tolliver and Assistant Junior High Trainer Brittany Rogers.
In order to achieve Safe Sports School Status, Athletic Programs are required to adhere to the following:
- Create a positive athletic health care administrative system
- Provide or coordinate per-participation physical examinations
- Promote safe and appropriate practice and competition facilities
- Plan for selection, fit function and proper maintenance of athletic equipment
- Provide a permanent, appropriately equipped area to evaluate and treat injured athletes
- Develop injury and illness prevention strategies, including protocols for environmental conditions
- Provide or facilitate injury intervention
- Create and rehearse venue-specific Emergency Action Plan
- Provide or facilitate psycho-social consultation and nutritional counseling/education
- Be sure athletes and parents are educated of the potential benefits and risks in sports as well as their responsibilities
The NATA Secondary School Athletic Trainers' Committee has established the Secondary School Athletic Trainer of the Year Award to recognize deserving athletic trainers in secondary schools across the country. Specifically this award recognizes an individual who:
- Elevate the athletic training profession at the secondary school level.
- Provide public awareness, promotion and education about the AT’s role in their local communities.
- Contribute to their communities beyond their athletic environments.
- Help establish and maintain the athletic trainers’ presence in the secondary school setting.
