BONFIRE MEMORIAL HELD AT COLLAPSE SITE

At 2:42 this morning, Aggies gathered at the site of the darkest days in A&M history – the 1999 collapse of the Aggie Bonfire.

The gathering took place at the site where the Stack collapsed, 21 years ago, killing 12 and injuring 27 more.

The site is now home to the Bonfire Memorial, celebrating the tradition and history of Texas A&M and as a memorial to those who lost their lives.

Every anniversary, a memorial ceremony is held.

Due to the pandemic, the crowd at the 2020 memorial ceremony was reduced to just families of the victims. However, hundreds more watched from the hillsides surrounding the memorial wearing masks.
