TX SUPREME COURT EXTENDS EVICTION RELIEF

The Texas Supreme Court has extended its emergency eviction relief program for tenants behind on rent during the coronavirus pandemic.

The program has been extended through at least March 15, postponing the program’s expiration date by a month and a half.

The move comes after the US Congress passed a stimulus bill earlier this week, extending the federal moratorium on evictions through the end of January.

The state created the Texas Eviction Diversion Program earlier this fall with the help of $171 million in CARES Act funding, the vast majority designated for rental assistance.

The federal moratorium doesn’t prevent all evictions. Some local authorities across the state have been more aggressive in limiting evictions than others.

Some housing advocates said the extension doesn’t go far enough to address the large number of struggling renters, even as the federal government extended its eviction moratorium.

  1. In Theory moratorium on Evictions sounds like the right thing to do during these difficult times, However what I think lots of people do not know is that eventually the Renter will have to play Catch Up and will be required to pay all of the Back Rent, Also some Land lords I know cannot make the Mortgage on their rental properties because they are not receiving any rent payments so They are considering selling their rental income properties which means if sold the person living in that rental home may be asked to leave once its sold, So Its not all what it seems.

  2. This is a wonderful thing for struggling Texas families. But I am not fooled into thinking one minute that the state house has any sympathy for the unemployed. Tens of thousands of wealthy Texans live very comfortable lives on their mailbox money ( rental income) and the elected officials want to keep that money flowing into multiple pockets.
