BLINN BOARD TO CONSIDER EQUIPMENT CONTRACT FOR STEI BUILDING

The Blinn Board of Trustees will meet tomorrow (Tuesday) to consider a contract for equipment purchases for the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Innovation (STEI) Building under construction on the Brenham Campus.

The board will look to execute a contract with VWR for $120,000 for furniture, fixture, and equipment (FFE) items for the STEI Building.  The College began seeking proposals for the items after the board’s meeting last May.

College administrators say the overall project budget of $35.5 million includes a soft cost budget of $7.8 million.  The soft cost budget includes $5.2 million for FFE items, $2.4 million for professional services, and $200,000 for central plant upgrades.  Funds for this project are available in the 2019 series bond funds.

The 72,000 square-foot building will include 17,000 square feet of laboratory space and a 3,000 square-foot innovation lab, providing expanded lab spaces for Blinn’s science, engineering, and health science programs.

Also at tomorrow’s meeting, trustees will consider a guaranteed maximum price for the RELLIS Phase II Building on the RELLIS Campus.  The project will include the construction of a three-story, 80,000 square-foot building located north of the Walter C. Schwartz Building.  The building will house an engineering lab, computer science room, information technology lab, esports arena, student services suite, 19 lecture classrooms, student study spaces, faculty and administrative suites, and meeting rooms.

Trustees will also consider awarding a policy for the College’s property insurance coverage to Texas Association of School Boards Risk Management Fund.

On the consent agenda, the board will consider several items pertaining to the May 1st election for the Precinct One and Four trustee positions.  The two are currently held by Reverend Randy Wells and Rebecca Ehlert.

The board will meet tomorrow afternoon at 5:30 p.m.  Public access to the meeting will occur in Rooms 2 and 3 of the Brenham Campus Student Center.  The meeting will also be livestreamed on Blinn College’s YouTube channel.
