LOCAL ENTRIES PLACE AT REGIONAL PECAN SHOW

  

 

Nineteen Washington County entries placed at the East Region Pecan Show for the 2020 crop year.

The show was judged January 14th at the G. Rollie White Visitors Center in College Station, Texas.

One hundred sixty samples from twelve counties were entered into this year’s show. Fifty-six individual pecan producers were represented in the entries.

As part of this event, pecans are evaluated for quality and variety characteristics to determine the best pecan in each category, division, and overall.

Nearly all Washington County exhibitors who advanced from the county show to the regional show placed with one or more entries.

Special assistance with the show was provided by Robert Luedeker – Austin County Horticulture Committee, and Tim Meier – Washington County Horticulture Committee. The judges for the show were Mr. Bill Ree, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Entomologist-Retired, and Mr. Stephen Janak, Extension Program Specialist with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension. The show was coordinated and managed by Dr. Monte Nesbitt, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Program Specialist – Pecan/Fruit/Citrus, College Station.

Ribbons and plaques for the winners are sponsored by the Texas Pecan Growers Association.
