ROAD RECONSTRUCTION ON SOUTH BAYLOR STREET BEGINS MONDAY

Starting Monday, the City of Brenham Street Department will be reconstructing South Baylor Street from Main Street to Vulcan Street.

Reconstruction will be done in phases, and will last approximately one to one and a half weeks.

During the time of construction and during the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., this section of roadway will be limited to vehicular traffic throughout the work zones.  City staff will work with residents to get access to homes throughout this process.

Reconstruction will involve tilling up the current roadway, grading the sub-base and adding bulk cement to stabilize the sub-base.  A two-inch asphalt layer will be added to the new road bed after cement is applied.

Residents may notice dusty conditions at times, especially as cement is added to the roadway.  They are asked to not drive the roadway on the day bulk cement is applied from 8 a.m. to noon, as the cement could get on their vehicles and cause damage if not rinsed off in a timely manner.  Vehicular travel will also be limited on the day crews lay asphalt.

If drivers are unsure of the road conditions, they can ask work crews before driving on the road.  They are also asked to park all cars in driveways or off the roadways between the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
