Four Buccaneers reach double-digit points

 

BRENHAM, Texas — The No. 18 Blinn College women’s basketball team (4-1) defeated North American University (NAU), 90-29, Monday night in the Kruse Center.

With the win, the Buccaneers improve their record to 4-1.

“We got to play all 13 players on the roster and got to experience our second home game of the year,” head coach Jeff Jenkins said. “Our players did a good job of working on our zone offense and sprinting back in transition defense.”

Four Buccaneers reached double-digit points as Hailey Atwood led the way with 18. Rebekah Malik and Ah’Jaya Johnson each scored 12, while Jessica Soders tallied 10. Chynell Mitchell scored eight in the win.

The Buccaneers leaped out to a 24-6 lead in the first quarter. By halftime, the Buccaneers had extended their lead to 39-15.

Blinn continued to dominate by outscoring NAU 32-11 in the third quarter to hold a 71-26 advantage. The Buccaneers limited NAU to three points and added 19 points in the final quarter for the 61-point win.

Next, the Buccaneers will open conference play against No. 9 Tyler Junior College Wednesday, Feb. 3, at 5:30 p.m. in the Kruse Center.  The game can be heard on KWHI AM-1280, FM 101.7 and www.kwhi.com.
