BLINN MEN SOAR OVER STRENGTH N MOTION, 102-80

Four Buccaneers score double-digit points in win

BRENHAM, Texas — The Blinn College men’s basketball team soared to a 102-80 victory over Strength N Motion in a non-conference game Thursday night in the Kruse Center.

With the win, the Buccaneers increase their overall record to 6-2.

“I am glad that everybody got to play and we did a decent job of executing our stuff,” head coach Scott Schumacher said. “It was really good to play tonight after being off for a while and get back into the groove.”

Davion Coleman

Davion Coleman registered a game-high 31 points, while Judah Jordan followed with 12, Ky Blodget scored 11 and Sammi Fajana put up 10. Bonke Maring was next with nine points, while Jacob Paske and Braelon Seals each scored eight.

“The break from playing made me realize how much I missed basketball and how lucky we are to play this game, so it was really fun to get back out there and get a win,” Paske said. “We were all so ready to play a game against another opponent, so we came out with a lot of energy and played good defense. The shots will fall when you play good defense every time.”

Maring scored the first five points for the Buccaneers to give them an early advantage. By the 12:17 mark, the Buccaneers held a 23-15 lead. Their lead increased to 37-20 after three of Blinn’s next four shots were 3-pointers off the hands of Coleman. The Buccaneers ended the second half on an 8-0 run to lead 56-33.

Coleman scored nine points for Blinn within the first seven minutes of the second half to pull the Buccaneers ahead 67-47. Paske and Seals kept the momentum rolling by each sinking 3-pointers to keep the Buccaneers up 81-59. Blinn went on an 8-2 run to lead 94-72 with less than two minutes remaining. Blodget scored the final six points for Blinn to score triple-digit points and earn the victory.

Next, the Buccaneers will face off against Dallas Christian College in a non-conference game on Sunday, Feb. 28, at 3 p.m. in the Kruse Center.
