About a quarter of an acre of grass and two round bales of hay burned after a truck fire Friday afternoon near Independence.

The Prairie Hill and Meyersville Volunteer Fire Departments responded just before 2 p.m. to the 10000 block of FM 390 East, between Lueckemeyer Road and Seward Plantation Road.

According to Prairie Hill Deputy Chief Doug Zwiener, a pickup truck pulling a hay trailer in a pasture got stuck, and the underside of the truck caught the grass on fire.  The truck was fully involved as of 2:15 p.m.

No injuries were reported.  The truck was a complete loss, but the trailer was saved.
