Buccaneers’ offense totals 11 hits

 

WHARTON, Texas — The Blinn College baseball team fell to Wharton County Junior College, 10-3, on the road Wednesday.

With the loss, the Buccaneers are now 19-19 overall and 13-15 in conference play.

The Buccaneers totaled 11 hits as Kam Kelton, Tyler Russell, and Dalton Stevenson led the way with two apiece. Kelton drove in one run and scored one run, while Russell knocked in one run. In addition, Jack Schell and Westley Schields each scored one run.

On the mound, Kirkland Michaux only gave up one run in two innings, while Mason Muras only surrendered one run in three innings.

Wharton grabbed a 4-0 lead in the opening inning and the Buccaneers never recovered from the early deficit.

Blinn scored its first run in the second inning when Russell hit a one-run single for Kelton to score.

In the third inning, Wharton added another four runs to the scoreboard to lead 8-1.

The Buccaneers scored one run in the fourth inning when Schields scored on an error. Then, Blinn scored its final run in the fifth inning when Kelton singled for Schell to score.

Garrison Weiss

Wharton added one run in the bottom of the fifth inning and its final run in the seventh inning.

In the eighth inning, Stevenson, Jett Garcia, and Garrison Weiss strung together three singles to load the bases for Blinn, but Wharton turned a double play to get out of the jam.

Next, Blinn will conclude the regular season with a doubleheader against Wharton on Saturday, May 1, starting at 2 p.m. at Leroy Dreyer Field. The games will feature Sophomore Day.
