WASHINGTON CO. APPRAISAL DISTRICT BOARD REVIEWS PROPOSED 2021-22 BUDGET
The Washington County Appraisal District Board of Directors reviewed the proposed budget for 2021-22 at a workshop Tuesday.
The proposed budget is a $60,000 to $70,000 increase from last year’s budget, which was $911,494. Chief Appraiser Dyann White said the exact number of the proposed budget will be presented at a future board meeting.
One of the reasons for the increase, according to White, is a proposed 3 percent salary increase for all appraisal district employees. The budget is also affected by a jump from 226 to 250 working days; White said the extra work days are needed in order for employees to keep up with the demands of the job. She said the budget is also increasing because several of the district’s field appraisers have attained higher levels of licensure.
The board also discussed a proposed budget amendment. The amendment would obligate $162,221 in surplus funds from the 2018-19 and 2019-20 budgets. The funds would be used to pay $90,221 for software purchases and costs associated with Senate Bill 2 from the 2019 Legislature, $35,000 for computer and plotter replacements, $30,000 to add a fleet vehicle, and $7,000 to pay off an existing aerial imagery contract.
The board is set to act on the budget amendment at its meeting June 22nd.
If you look at your tax rate for the CITY (NOT County, Blinn, or BISD), you will see it went DOWN last year. Yup, City Council lowered the tax rate last year and nobody noticed because their overall tax bills went up due to increases from the other taxing entities. Hope you remember to hold County Commissioners and School Board members accountable when they are up for reelection. The City has no power to change your appraisal or to prevent school boards from raising taxes. Yet something like 10% of eligible voters even vote in those elections.
I hope everyone has received your tax appraisals. An I also hope everyone protest, your deadline is June 14. But do it now. Get ready for all their “justified excuses” to start pouring out.we just had a awful year of Covid. Taxes have increased 12%. They have a new staff guys. New faces that are serious about sucking you dry with a smile on their face. New car, new software, BS.
Get ready this is going up from here. … I just hope these new representatives we voted for will stand up for the citizens that voted for them. Show us what you got….Also pick up your damn signs. It is rude an a bad reflection on you. Brenham is going to be paying attention to everything you do. We voted for respect, honesty and change. That is what YOU promised. We will not put up with anymore backdoor decisions like the recycle.
City Council doesn’t have anything to do with the County Appraisal Board
