Tyler, the defending National Junior College Athletic Association national women’s soccer champion, scored two first half goals to take the win on Rankin Field in Brenham’s Hohlt Park. The Apaches scored three minutes into the game and added a second goal in the 25th minute but were shut out by Blinn in the second half.

“I was very pleased with the performance,” Blinn (0-2) coach Michael McBride said. “It’s never good to lose, but we learned a lot about the team. It was a much, much better performance than the previous game (a loss to Northeast Texas Community College). We gave them a game. We have lots of good things to take from it.”

McBride said there were few scoring chances as both teams looked to control the ball in the midfield.

The Bucs will travel to Trinity Valley Community College on Saturday for another conference matchup. That game will begin at 1 p.m.

Third-ranked Tyler Junior College posted a 3-1 win over the Blinn College men’s soccer team Wednesday at Hohlt Park in Brenham.

Tyler took a 1-0 lead in the first half and extended that to 2-0 before Blinn’s Marco Rodriguez chipped in a goal to pull the Bucs back within one in the conference matchup. However, the Apaches put the game out of reach with a late free kick that found the back of Blinn’s net.

“They’re ranked third in the country, but we gave them a game,” said Blinn head coach Michael McBride. “We won’t have many teams that we’ll play against that will be that good, and if we can hang with them, we should be able to hang with other teams in the region.”

Blinn is now 2-2-1 on the season and 0-2 in conference play. The Bucs have another conference game Saturday, when they will travel to Trinity Valley Community College.
