Texas A&M made it official, Wednesday, awarding head football coach Jimbo Fisher with a four-year contract extension that increases his average annual salary to more than $9 million.

Fisher's new deal will keep his contract at 10 years, now running through Dec. 31, 2031, and will be worth more than $90 million.

It places him second nationally behind Alabama's Nick Saban as the highest-paid coaches in college football. Saban will receive $10.6 million annually through the 2028 season.

Fisher, who is 26-10 in three seasons at Texas A&M, will be paid an annual salary of $9 million beginning Jan. 1, 2022, an amount that increases to $9,150,000 on Jan. 1, 2023. Fisher's base salary increases by $100,000 in each of the following years, with all other performance incentives remaining the same.

The Aggies enter the 2021 season ranked No. 6 in The Associated Press preseason poll.  They will open the 2021 season Saturday night at home to Kent State.  Kickoff at Kyle Field is set for 7:00 p.m. with the broadcast set to begin at 6:00 on AM 1280 KWHI and FM 101.7.
