DUELING AT THE FANTHORP INN THIS WEEKEND
A historical showcase at the Fanthorp Inn in Anderson this weekend will feature live dueling demonstrations.
The historic site will highlight the relationship between Henry Fanthorp and Sam Houston as part of its Fanthorp Focus Weekend program, titled “The General at Ease”, on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
On Saturday at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., the grounds of the inn will be transformed into a field of honor as interpreters from the Sam Houston Memorial Museum engage in the procedures and etiquette that accompanied a gentlemanly duel as it would have happened in the early days of the Republic of Texas.
Visitors will also be able to see Sam Houston’s own dueling pistols on display. In addition, for the first time in over a decade, the silver tipped cane and silver pocket watch given to Fanthorp by Houston will be displayed at the inn.
Admission is free and open to the public. Donations are welcome.
