STORAGE BUILDING DESTROYED IN FIRE NEAR WILLIAM PENN

A storage building was destroyed in a fire Tuesday afternoon in northeast Washington County.

The Washington Volunteer Fire Department responded to the fire in the 12300 block of Schwartz Road, north of the William Penn community, shortly after 12:45 p.m.

According to Assistant Volunteer Fire Chief Carl Horn, firefighters found a 400 square foot building fully involved when they arrived.

Units from the Washington and Prairie Hill fire departments extinguished the fire in about 45 minutes and were on scene for 2 hours.

Horn said the building was a total loss, but the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Firefighters were assisted by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, EMS and Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative.
