Seven Blinn College students have been nominated as 2021 homecoming queen and king candidates.

The king and queen will be announced during halftime of the Blinn-Trinity Valley football game Saturday at 3 p.m. at Cub Stadium in Brenham. Selection of a homecoming king and queen is based on student voting, a candidate’s nomination essay, letters of recommendation, and performance at a talent show.

Homecoming queen candidates are: (L to R) Stephanie Llanas, Deaundrah Newell, Bidhata Panedy, Angel Rodriguez, and Bidhata Panedy.

Homecoming queen candidates are:

·         Stephanie Llanas, nominated by the Housing Department. Llanas, a math major from Lexington, is a resident assistant at Hallstein Hall. She plans to transfer to the University of Houston, then work in education to inspire other ethnic women and men to become mathematicians.

·         Deaundrah Newell, nominated by Refined Ladies, a Brenham Campus student organization that looks to positively impact and influence young women at the College. Newell, from Houston, is a liberal arts major who plans to attend Prairie View A&M University to become a nurse.

·         Bidhata Panedy, also nominated by Refined Ladies. Pandey, from Brenham, is a computer science major who plans to earn a Ph.D. in computer science.

·         Angel Rodriguez, nominated by Blinn cheerleading. A Corpus Christi native, Rodriguez is a biology major who plans to attend the University of Texas at Austin to study pediatrics.

·         Haley Rodriguez, nominated by the Blinn College dance team. Rodriguez, from Baytown, is a liberal arts major. She plans to transfer to a four-year university to pursue a degree in civil engineering.

Homecoming king candidates are:

Gabriel Lujan

·         Gabriel Lujan, nominated by Blinn cheerleading. Lujan, from Hutto, is a general studies major. He plans to attend Texas State University to study kinesiology and participate in the coed cheerleading team.

Colbey Thornton

·         Colbey Thornton, nominated by the Beta Alpha Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa. Thornton, from Brenham, is majoring in biology and liberal arts at Blinn. He plans to attend Sam Houston State University and earn a master’s degree in clinical psychology with an emphasis on forensics.  Story and photos courtesy of Blinn College.
