‘CZHILISPIEL 49’ THIS WEEKEND IN DOWNTOWN FLATONIA
The 49th edition of Czhilispiel is this weekend in downtown Flatonia.
The festival celebrates Flatonia’s Czech and German heritage and features a full slate of activities such as barbecue cook-offs, arts and crafts, live music, a 5K and a parade through downtown.
Festivities begin tonight (Friday) with the opening of the carnival, biergarten and food and craft booths. Matt Castillo will take the stage prior to a Latin tribute show from Cristina Amaro.
Tomorrow (Saturday) will include the 5K run and walk, a golf tournament, cook-off activities, a jalapeño eating contest and the Czhilispiel Got Talent contest. Featured entertainment tomorrow night will be Rick Trevino, Jon Stork, Giovannie and the Hired Guns, and LC Rocks.
The festival concludes on Sunday with a performance from D’Vine Testament, a car and truck show and the Czhilispiel Grand Parade. There will also be a Halloween costume contest, tricycle races and a Little Wranglers Hay Hauling contest for the kids, while adults can take part in a Back Seat Momma Drivin’ contest, play washers and compete in horseshoe and cornhole tournaments. The Blue Denim Band and Shiner’s 2nd Wind will perform in the afternoon and evening.
