BRENHAM ANIMAL SERVICES TAKING CATS ON EMERGENCY BASIS ONLY

  

Brenham Animal Services is only accepting cats on an emergency basis at this time.

According to Animal Services Manager Allison Harper, shelters throughout the state are experiencing high levels of disease such as mycoplasma infections, ringworm, coccidiosis and parvo.  This outbreak, combined with public requests to take in as many as 10-20 animals at a time, puts stress on the shelter’s population and staff.

At the onset of COVID-19, Brenham Animal Services implemented a Managed Intake Policy, which includes enhanced alternatives to bringing animals to the shelter.  Since adopting the policy, the shelter has relied on individuals to foster animals to keep the shelter open for animals in emergency situations.  The shelter also encourages individuals to attempt to find the owner of a lost pet in its neighborhood before bringing it in.

The public is asked to contact Brenham Animal Services as soon as possible before bringing animals to the shelter, in order to allow for better preparation for both staff and the animals.  ID is required for any transaction at the Brenham Pet Adoption Center.
