BLINN FALLS IN FIVE SETS AT NATIONAL TOURNAMENT

BUCCANEERS FACE SNOW ON SATURDAY

The Blinn College volleyball team fell to Florida SouthWestern in an NJCAA Division I Volleyball Championship consolation bracket match Friday afternoon at the Hutchinson Sports Arena in Hutchinson, Kan.

The Buccaneers rallied from a two-set deficit but ultimately fell in five sets, 25-12, 25-12, 22-25, 22-25, 15-10.

Sophomores Charde Van Zandt and Jayde Shelton led Blinn (39-3) with 16 and 13 kills, respectively. Freshman setter Lina Ellila dished out 34 set assists, followed by 11 for sophomore Savannah Sebek.

On defense, sophomore Lixai Perez led the way with 15 digs, sophomore Guilia Hortelan added 11, and Ellila and sophomore Emily Smajstria added 10 apiece. At the net, sophomore Ashley Taylor added four assisted blocks and one solo block.

The Buccaneers will continue tournament play with a match against Snow at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 20.
