BRENHAM SCHOOL BOARD TO MEET MONDAY
The Brenham School District is considering no longer charging out of District students for attending classes at BISD.
Brenham Superintendent Dr. Tylor Chaplin says few school districts continue to charge out-of-district transfer fees to students. Dr. Chaplin says the State provides the same amount of funding for students whether they live inside or outside the District. Brenham ISD currently charges $2500 per year for any student that lives outside the District’s geographical borders and is not the child of a District employee. Dr. Chaplin says the State funds school districts based on average daily attendance, so many districts have eliminated that policy to increase their enrollment and funding. He says Brenham ISD can accept or deny transfer students based on their previous attendance rates and disciplinary records, in addition to whether there is enough space in that student’s grade level or program.
The Brenham School Board will consider that proposal at their regular meeting Monday night at 6:00 at Brenham High School. Also on the agenda is the purchase of communication devices, the abatement of pipes at Community Education, and an agreement of cooperation between Brenham ISD and Brazos Valley Teach.
