WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS TO DISCUSS JOINT CONTRACT FOR MARCH PRIMARY

Washington County Commissioners will discuss the spring primary elections at their meeting Tuesday.

Commissioners will consider a joint resolution and statistical information, authorizing the county’s Republican and Democratic parties to enter into a joint primary election services contract with the county election administrator.

The contract will allow for the conducting and supervision of the joint primary election on March 1, 2022 and the joint primary runoff election, if necessary, on May 24, 2022.

Also on Tuesday, the court will:

  • Consider awarding bids for drive bridge piling; fuel for Engineering and Development Services, EMS, the Washington County Expo, the sheriff's office, the district attorney's office, constables and courthouse maintenance.
  • Hear monthly reports from the emergency management coordinator, county and district clerks, justices of the peace, auditor, tax assessor-collector, treasurer, constables and elections department.
  • Receive a presentation from EMS Director Kevin Deramus.

Commissioners will meet Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the Washington County Courthouse.

  1. Please understand how things are done in Washington County and what this request is for before you make comments about vendors etc. The ballots are counted at the courthouse by Washington County residents that are part of the elections process just like those that work the polling locations. There is no outside vendor doing the counting. There are counting machines that are purchased from a certified vendor but the ‘work’ is done and has been done by the same team for many years. I have been involved in a ‘hand count’ for a very small election with only two races and it took HOURS. The hand count process on a Presidential election would take an extreme amount of staff and would take five times longer to complete than the machine count. And that increased labor would cost the taxpayers more money as well.

  2. We do not need a hired vendor at our elections ever. Please stop wasting our tax dollars. France hand counts its votes and has the results same day. Stop the needless spending. Clean up the voter roles if you want to do anything useful.

  3. How about getting rid of voting machines? One legal vote per one legal voter. We do not need the electronic machines or third party vendors counting the votes in Washington county.

    1. It’s the County Election Administrator it is not an outside vendor that the two parties are contracting with! Do you even know that the county has hired said Administrator? It’s to streamline and last time I voted I used a paper ballot not a voting machine.
