OLD ASSETS TO BE REMOVED FROM WASHINGTON CO. EXPO
The destruction of several old assets at the Washington County Expo was approved by Washington County Commissioners at their meeting today (Tuesday).
The court approved requests from Expo Director Harrison Williams to destroy the rodeo concession stand, a portable building and the beer barn’s walk-in freezer for ice.
Williams explained that each of the facilities and items have fallen into varying degrees of disrepair, with the concession stand suffering weather damage.
Williams said the concession stand’s concrete pad will be left because it is still in good shape, and the power and water for the building will be moved back to the telephone pole in order to allow food trucks at the location.
The portable building that sits by the Maifest barn will also be torn down. Williams said it does not belong to the Brenham Maifest Association or the Washington County Fair Association, and no one has expressed interest in preserving it.
Williams said the ice freezer has had various mechanical components fail, and it will be replaced with plug-in ice coolers.
In other action, commissioners approved the execution of supplemental easements and right-of-way with AEP Texas, Inc. for the San Angelo Power-Eldorado Live Oak and Menard-San Angelo Power electric transmission lines for Washington County school land in Tom Green County.
The county is being offered $4,500 per acre for these easement agreements, which cover 31.058 acres and 45.914 acres for a total of $346,374. Another agreement with Concho Valley Solar for $500 per acre will come before the court next week.
Commissioners also received a presentation from Washington County Historical Commission Chair Tom Stevens, who recapped 2021’s historical commission projects. He said he plans for the historical commission to hold another youth summer camp in partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Washington County at Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historical Site. He said there are also plans to partner with Brenham ISD to have a “history in the classroom project.”
Also at today’s meeting, the court:
- Received presentations of preliminary plats for two subdivisions. The first was for the Brenham Hills subdivision, located on 50.3 acres at the intersection of Highway 290 and Jozwiak Road in Precinct 2. The second was for the Hill Creek Ridge subdivision, a development of 122.9 acres on FM 1155 East near Krueger Road in Precinct 1.

Really sad the state of disrepair the county has let the rodeo arena or grounds for that mater come into . When previous grounds people who knew what was needed for a rodeo properly prepared surface was needed there were always events there now you rick getting the animals or riders hurt because soil is not properly kept & it shows never anything going on or rented anymore. why do you think the city has people on the grounds crew that played baseball, because the know how the surface should be prepared.
Want to make $ put some $ into it cover it, Build consessions & BATHROOMS lord knows grounds bathroom are trash [Check out what Caldwell has] with NONE having handicap access. Tie the main beer bar into the stage with a cover. BUILD IT BETTER THEY WILL COME
