FIVE BLINN STUDENTS SELECTED TO ALL-TEXAS ACADEMIC TEAM
Five Blinn College students have been selected to the 2022 All-Texas Academic Team.
Lemuel Chineyemba, a sophomore from Lekki, Nigeria; Casey Prowell, a sophomore from Bellville; Alexis Tijerina, a freshman from League City; Courtney Thomas, a sophomore from Katy; and Sherihan Jaouhari, a sophomore from Houston, were among approximately 400 community college students named to the prestigious academic team this year.
Chineyemba, Prowell and Tijerina attend classes on the Brenham Campus. Jaouhari is a student on the Bryan Campus, and Thomas is an online student. They will be honored at a virtual medallion ceremony on Friday, April 1st.
The award is sponsored by the University of Texas System and the Texas Association of Community Colleges. Selections are based on students’ leadership, academic achievements and civic engagements.
All five Blinn honorees are members of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), an international honor society for students from two-year colleges. Students must have a grade point average of at least 3.5 to be members.
Emily Erdmann, advisor to the Alpha Phi Lambda chapter of PTK, said these students “exemplify what it means to be nominated to the All-Texas Academic Team,” and “cannot think of a more deserving group of students to receive this honor.”
The five are now eligible to be considered for the PTK All-USA Academic Team, which includes a $5,000 scholarship and special medallion.
