Brenham ISD’s Child Nutrition Department has been recognized by the Texas Department of Agriculture for its participation in the 2021 Fall Farm Fresh Challenge.
The district received “Best of the Bunch” honors after joining schools and childcare providers around the state to “Eat Local, Teach Local and Be Social” in October. The challenge encourages school districts to serve Texas-grown foods, offer agricultural learning opportunities and share their accomplishments on social media.
To qualify as a “Best of the Bunch” award recipient, districts had to serve three or more Texas foods representing three different meal components at least once a week during the challenge. They also had to host at least one educational opportunity each week of the challenge and showcase their activities online.
The TDA said in a letter to the district that participating in events such as the Farm Fresh Challenge “can elevate all aspects of a school nutrition program,” and that Brenham ISD is “truly deserving of this recognition.”
