WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS TO CONSIDER JOINT ELECTION AGREEMENT WITH BRENHAM ISD

A joint election agreement between Washington County and Brenham ISD will be taken up by Washington County Commissioners at their meeting Tuesday.

The agreement will allow county polling places during the May 7th election to host both the special constitutional amendment election and Brenham ISD’s bond election.  Per the agreement, Election Day polling locations that will be open for both elections include the Washington County Event Center, Brenham VFW Hall, Nancy Carol Roberts Memorial Library and Blinn College Student Center.

The court will also vote on matching the $10 hourly rate paid to election workers by Brenham ISD solely for the joint election.  Washington County currently compensates election workers at $9 an hour.

Also on Tuesday, commissioners will:

  • Hear a presentation from EMS Director Kevin Deramus on the Dossatt Project.
  • Proclaim the month of April as Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month in Washington County.
  • Consider purchasing a five-year subscription service for the Webex Calling telephone system. The first three years will be paid with American Rescue Plan Act funds, with the fourth and fifth years paid annually with budgeted funds.
  • Receive the Washington County Expo’s quarterly report.
  • Vote on a bond for Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace Robert Duane Houston.
  • Consider a 60-day extension of 51 excess vacation hours for Elections Administrator Carol Jackson.
  • Consider a subdivision variance request for a land division fronting Young Lane at Sandtown Road in Precinct 4.

Commissioners will meet Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the Washington County Courthouse.

  1. Election workers 9 to 10 dollars an hour but you want to give the EMS director a helicopter command at a million plus so he can keep up with the big boy counties of Harris,Montgomery,Brazoria,Ft.Bend, etc. Pay election workers fairly 15 to start out. Tell Kevin to apply for copter command in a highly populated county if he has to have choppers to function. I would rather have our taxes spent on a decent wage for a very important function our elections than chopper commander wanna be. We roll the dice but God determines the outcome.
