DEFECT IN LED LIGHTS CAUSING STREET LIGHTS IN BRENHAM TO TURN PURPLE

Citizens of Brenham may have noticed some of the street lights around town turning purple.
KWHI News spoke with City of Brenham Public Works Director Dane Rau about what is causing the issue.
Rau explained that the issue began when the city started making the transition to LED lights back in 2017.
The City of Brenham has been gradually switching to LED by purchasing them from Acuity at a rate of 100 bulbs a year.
They have been changing out about 60-70 bulbs per year.
Rau said that it has since been discovered that approximately 20% of the lights from Acuity have a defect in them. The problem has been happening nation wide.
The film inside some of the lights after burning for a certain length of time will start turning purple.
According to Rau, when they find a bulb with the defect, they put in a work order, and get them changed out as quickly as possible.
They then contact Acuity and get credit back for the bad bulbs.
If anyone notices lights around town turning purple, please contact the City of Brenham at 337-7400, and or use the Citizen Request Portal on their website www.cityofbrenham.org.
I’ve seen at least 2 of them on Market St.
