MAY SALES TAX REBATES UP FOR BRENHAM & WASHINGTON CO., DOWN FOR BURTON
Sales and tax distributions this month showed gains for Brenham and Washington County, but were down for Burton.
The county’s rebate for May was $420,330, up 24.28 percent from last May’s total of $338,210. So far in 2022, the county has received $1,754,955, a 28.34 percent increase from the $1,367,414 received through this time last year.
Brenham received a payment of $857,777, 13.35 percent up from when it received $756,719 last May. Through the year to date, the city’s receipts amount to $3,727,702, up 20.36 percent from its $3,096,972 received at this time a year ago.
Burton’s May rebate was $9,457, 3.67 percent down from when it received $9,818 last May. So far this year, the city has received $41,182, up 12.55 percent from this point in 2021, when it had received $36,588.
Comptroller Glenn Hegar reported that the state paid out $1.2 billion in local sales tax allocations in May, up 11.8 percent from last May and up 19.6 percent for the year to date.
