USDA-FSA COUNTY COMMITTEE MEMBER ELECTION PROCESS UNDERWAY

The United States Department of Agriculture’s Farm Service Agency is now accepting applications for their upcoming County Committee Member elections.

The nomination period started last week and runs through August 1.

Farm Service Agency County Committees can serve either a single county, or a multi-county district.  Washington County and Austin County are paired together, with the local FSA office being at 1351 West Main Street in Bellville.

County Committees are part of Local Administrative Areas, or LAA’s, and make important decisions about how Federal farm programs are administered locally.

State Executive Director Kelly Adkins said that they are looking for enthusiastic leaders to serve other agricultural producers on these committees as they work to build equitable systems and programming inclusive off all employees and all of their customers.

Election ballots will be mailed to eligible voters on November 7.  The last day to return ballots is December 5.  The newly elected committee members will then take office on January 1.

Nationwide, more than 7,700 members of the agricultural community serve on FSA County Committees.  The committees can be from 3 to 11 members, who each serve three year terms.

To find out how to get involved, you can contact the Austin County-Washington County FSA Office in Bellville at 979-865-3138.
