A Navasota man has been arrested after police caught him in the act of burglarizing a building.

Last Wednesday, July 6, Navasota Police Officers were sent to investigate a business alarm at 2:15am on the 100 Block of West Washington Avenue.

Officers found the entry door open, and later discovered a man in the rear office.  The suspect, who was identified as 61-year-old Titus Richardson, was holding what appeared to be some type of an assault rifle.

The police ordered him to drop it, and he complied. The weapon in question was later determined to be an AR-15 BB Gun.

Richardson was taken into custody on a charge of Burglary of Building.  He was then transported to the Grimes County Jail.

Navasota Interim Police Chief Mike Mize commended the officers for de-escalating the situation by using commands.

City Manager Jason Weeks stated, “This is a situation that could have turned out badly for our officers, and the family of Mr. Richardson. Luckily, our officers had the fortitude not to escalate this sensitive situation, and are to be commended for their handling of the situation.”
