LANDUA FIRE BURNS 10 ACRES IN WEST WASHINGTON CO.

Several Washington County volunteer fire departments were called upon Sunday to battle a large grass fire.
Around 4:30 p.m., the Rocky Creek and Gay Hill fire departments were dispatched to a 30x30 grass fire off of FM 1948. When they arrived, they found the fire, named the “Landua Fire”, had moved into a heavily wooded area and was spreading at a fast pace.
The Burton, Berlin, Meyersville and Salem fire departments were called to assist. The Texas A&M Forest Service also responded with fire engines, a helicopter, a dozer and personnel.
Rocky Creek firefighters stayed on scene overnight and into Monday to ensure the fire was contained, with assistance from state forest service and emergency management officials.
The fire burned approximately 10 acres and is fully contained.
